Parking · After bikes

A space that is empty anyway.

A private parking space, by the hour or the week. A space in a courtyard or a garage sits empty while its owner is at work, on holiday, or does not own a car. Post the hours it is free and a price. A photo of the plate in the space confirms arrival; leaving on time returns the deposit.

Zürich has fewer parking spaces than cars that want them, and thousands of private spaces that are empty for most of the day. Courtyards, garages, the space behind the house in Wiedikon whose owner takes the tram.

Parking needs no hardware. Access is a gate code, a key in a box, or an open courtyard, and the owner says which. Arrival is a photo of the plate in the space; departure is the same. Overstaying is the one thing that goes wrong, so the deposit is sized to it and the tariff is set before anyone parks.

Parking follows bikes. Same contracts, a new guild.

What is held

Fee plus a deposit against overstaying.

The deposit is small and returns when the space is free again on time. Overstaying reduces it by a tariff the owner set in advance.

Four steps

  1. List

An owner posts the space, the free hours, a price and how to get in.

  2. Reserve

    Fee and deposit are held.

  3. Park

A photo of the plate in the space confirms arrival. Leave on time.

  4. Settle

Deposit back, fee to the owner. Both sides rate.

When two neighbors disagree

The parking guild decides.

Most rentals close in step four. The few that do not go to the parking guild: a small group of people who know the thing, bonded, voting on the record. The renter has 72 hours to answer, the members vote within 96, and what is held moves as they decide. The platform never decides. How the guild works →

Questions

What if someone is in my space when I arrive?

Take a photo and tell the owner from the app. The rental does not start, nothing is charged, and the owner's record notes it.

Can I list a space I rent?

Only if your lease allows it. The owner confirms that when listing, and the guild treats a false confirmation as the owner's fault.
